About Me:

Michelle Anne Hylton. Currently a graduate student pursuing her master's degree from the University of Florida.

My name is Michelle Anne Hylton and I am currently a graduate student studying Elementary Education at the University of Florida. I graduated in Spring 2014 from UF with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. I am truly excited for this upcoming school year because, I will be completing a year long internship in a 2nd/3rd grade combo class at Teriwiliger Elementary.

I was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, and enjoy crafting, music, and spending time with people. My passion for people is truly what has guided me to pursue education in hopes that I might continuously learn and impact the lives of others, as I also have been richly impacted by lives around me.

Spring 2014 was definitely an awesome semester for me because my passion for education was illuminated in that I was able to inquire into a topic I am really passionate about; Urban Education.

Urban Education is truly important to me as not only an educator but an human being that believes that all children deserve the right to have a meaningful learning experience that will empower them to embrace who they are and accomplish any dream they have. I wholeheartedly believe that this education should not be based on zip code, race, socioeconomic status, etc., but for the sole fact that we desire to facilitate the growth of literate, purpose-driven citizens.

After I complete the master's program, I would like to move back to Jacksonville, Florida and teach in a high minority, Title I elementary school. While in Jacksonville, I also plan to start a mentoring program that gives elementary minority students the opportunity to be mentored by individuals of the same race and gender as themselves. After teaching for 3 to 5 years, I would like to pursue my Ph.D in either Urban Education or Education Leadership.
